Well, it's finally happened! Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn has officially stepped away from breaking following widespread backlash over her performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Announcing the news live on Australian radio, Raygun declared that she's bouncing out of competitive breaking for good.

“I still break, but I’m done with competing. I’m not going to compete anymore. No. No,” Gunn mentioned on 2DayFM’s Jimmy & Nath on Thursday.

“I had planned to continue competing, definitely, but now it feels really challenging for me to step into a battle.”

After receiving zero points for her Kath Day-Knight-inspired dance moves at the Paris Olympics, the polarizing athlete faced an overwhelming amount of public criticism, which she attributes to her decision to step back.

“It’s been really distressing. I just didn’t have any control over how people perceived me or who I was,” Gunn stated.

“Dancing is incredibly enjoyable, and it makes you feel great. I don’t think anyone should feel bad about the way they dance.

“If you hit the dance floor and enjoy yourself, then just embrace it.”

This comes just weeks after Raygun appeared on the cover of Stellar Magazine where she expressed that her “entire world has transformed” since the Olympics.

“My identity has shifted. My relationships have evolved, for better or for worse. It’s during times like these that you discover who your true friends are, unfortunately,” she told the magazine, before revealing that she’s concentrating on her health and her family, who have also been affected by the Olympic Games excitement.

Interestingly, she did not disclose in the interview that she had retired from breaking, but she did hint that she has exciting ventures in the works.

Without giving away too much, Raygun shared that she’s been involved in several projects “focused on self-expression and joyfulness”. How fascinating!
