Raygun Sets The Record Straight On Her Retirement Announcement: 'Not The Truth'

In a dramatic turn of events, Australian Olympian Dr. Rachael 'Raygun' Gunn has decided to retract her retirement statement, indicating that she is not planning to halt her breaking career anytime soon.

In case you missed it, the 37-year-old gained widespread attention for her unique dance moves — including a kangaroo hop and the sprinkler — during the inaugural Olympic breaking event in Paris 2024. Following her performance, Raygun became the subject of numerous memes and online criticism.

Last week, several months post-Olympics, Raygun once again captured attention by announcing her retirement on 2DayFM’s Jimmy & Nath.

However, it seems the B-Girl has dismissed the retirement rumors during an appearance on the Today show, clarifying that her radio interview was misunderstood.

“It’s not a decision that I came to, this got blown into a story. I was discussing on 2DayFM about not participating in certain competitions anymore, which didn’t seem like a big deal since breaking won’t be in the Olympics anyway,” the B-Girl explained to Today hosts Sarah Abo and Karl Stefanovic.

“But you know, I’m still going to be involved in community jams, or I’d like to attend them, keep dancing, and keep breaking. I never said retire — I’m not retiring.

“Try and stop me, I’m never going to stop dancing, so if you hear that again, know that it’s not true.”

Raygun’s clarification about her breaking career comes shortly after she stole the spotlight at a Tones and I concert at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.

The B-Girl left fans with mixed feelings when the “Dance Monkey” singer invited her on stage for a playful boogie, where she showcased her famous kangaroo stand.

Although the spontaneous dance was a delightful moment, some online critics were not pleased with Raygun’s appearance, with one commenter suggesting that the Olympian shouldn’t be encouraged.
